Samantha Barr

OREGON Licensed Professional Counselor, WASHINGTON LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR, FLORIDA REGISTERED TELEHEALTH PROVIDER,& Nationally Board Certified Counselor

I specialize in the treatment of binge eating disorder, compulsive overeating, emotional overeating, and their related struggles.

If you feel held prisoner by your relationship with food and your body (e.g., memorizing calorie counts obsessively, tracking every point or macro, mentally flogging yourself when passing your reflection), my mission is help you free yourself from the chains of diet culture. To help you become fully present, and live a life not overshadowed by worry about food and body; to change your relationship with food so you can eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full.  To quiet your inner critic's unhelpful voice, and accept and respect your body as it is.

My approach

I believe in harnessing your critical thinking skills to help you create positive change. I'll encourage you to keep asking "why" and questioning thoughts or values to determine for yourself what‘s important (instead of defaulting to what "should" be important). This may mean you reject "shoulds" in favor of what you actually want and believe. This authenticity and conviction translates to all other areas of life... not simply to your relationship with food and your body.

My Background & Education

I am an Oregon Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC by OBLPCT), a Washington Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC by and a Nationally Board Certified Counselor (NCC by NBCC).  I completed my Master’s degree in Community Counseling, with specializations in Eating Disorders as well as Addictions, at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
